Recent advances in the neurophysiology of stress urinary incontinence.Chancellor MB, Perkin H, Yoshimura N Department of Urology, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213, USA. chancellormb@msx.upmc.edu The purpose of this article is to highlight recent developments in the understanding of the neuropathophysiology of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The innervation of the urethra and the role of the guarding reflex in maintaining continence will be reviewed and recent animal research regarding the physiological basis of SUI will be discussed.
